A fire broke out at the home of Pine City resident Kelly Darwin on the morning of January 5, 2016. She had just arrived at her job at Pine Technical and Community College when she got word of the fire. By the time she arrived back at her mobile home, she found two fire departments there fighting the fire. Her home was engulfed in flames. Kelly lost everything in the fire including her beloved cat, Teqi. Left with her truck and the clothes on her back, Kelly is beginning the process of trying to rebuild her life.
Her residence – recently remodeled – was underinsured and Kelly is facing thousands of dollars just in cleanup costs as well as paying the fire departments for their services. All of this is in addition to finding a place to live, furnishing it, paying security deposits, and so on. Kelly has two adult children, Ron and Alicia, and is currently staying with them, alternating between their houses in Lindstrom and Forest Lake. She also has a younger son who lives with her, Coltin, a 2014 Pine City High School graduate.
In order to help Kelly, First Presbyterian Pine City will be hosting a Chili Meal, Raffle and Silent Auction on Wednesday, February 17, 2016, from 5:00 to 6:30 PM. at the church (405 Main Street South). The meal will include chili, cornbread, and a beverage. Donations for the meal and all proceeds from the raffle and silent auction will go to help Kelly with her expenses. This benefit dinner will take place at the church The entire Pine City community is invited to this event.
Businesses and organizations who are willing to contribute toward the Silent Auction and Raffle should contact the church office (firstname.lastname@example.org) for more information. All donations are tax deductible. A donation can be something as simple as a gift certificate to your business, a product, or perhaps a gift basket of products. If you would like to make a monetary donations it should be made payable to First Presbyterian Church with a notation that it is for the Helping Kelly Rebuild fund.
